Runway & Burn-Rate Planner
Estimates cash runway under different burn rates and revenue ramp assumptions to help founders decide how much funding to raise.
Estimate runway realistically when revenue is still ramping
Runway & Burn-Rate Planner projects how many months your cash lasts under a specific monthly burn and a chosen revenue ramp. It’s built for founders and CFOs deciding how much to raise—and whether projected revenue is dependable enough to count in runway planning.
Net burn each month: burn minus projected revenue
For every month in the forecast, the tool computes effective net burn as: monthly burn rate − projected monthly revenue. It then subtracts that net burn from your starting cash until cash hits zero. If you choose a funding timing, it adds the funding amount as a lump sum in the selected month, recalculating the time-to-zero.
When revenue counts—and when it shouldn’t
The calculator classifies revenue reliability based on how much revenue offsets burn during the runway period. If revenue doesn’t start early enough, or if early-month revenue covers less than about 25% of burn, it will advise you not to rely on revenue fully. If revenue covers more than ~75% of burn and stays relatively stable, the tool treats it as material for runway reduction.
Big caveat: this is cash, not GAAP—and it ignores several real-world items
This planner simplifies timing by assuming steady monthly burn and monthly revenue buckets. It doesn’t model taxes, one-time costs, financing fees, dilution, debt service, or working-capital swings—so actual cash could move faster than the projection. Also, aggressive revenue ramps may look safe on paper but can be fragile if collections slip.
