Formal occasions strongly favor structured pieces (especially overcoats and blazers), even if you lean casual elsewhere. Cold or windy weather boosts heavier, protective categories (overcoat/field jacket/parka) and can outweigh a more casual wardrobe signal. If your layering need is high, the tool may prefer jackets known for accommodating layers comfortably, even when they’re less polished than a tailored blazer.

This calculator uses broad jacket categories and weather types, so it won’t account for fabric quality, waterproofing, or how warm a specific brand feels in your climate. It also doesn’t consider body shape, color palette, or local dress codes, so your result is best treated as a category-level starting point—not a guarantee of fit or appropriateness.
