Closet Reset Decision Tool
Evaluate any clothing item and get a fast, consistent decision: keep, alter, sell, donate, or recycle.
Make a fast, repeatable decision for every item
Closet Reset Decision Tool helps you decide what to do with one clothing item at a time—keep, alter, sell, donate, or recycle—using consistent criteria. It’s designed for wardrobe overhauls when “keep vs donate vs alter vs sell” starts to feel overwhelming, so you can move through your closet with less second-guessing.
Score your item, then choose the highest-priority action
You select wear frequency, fit status, condition, alteration effort, and resale potential. The tool converts those inputs into decision scores (keep/alter/sell/donate/recycle) and recommends the highest-scoring option. If two actions tie, it uses a fixed priority order: keep → alter → sell → donate → recycle.
What changes the outcome most (and what the tool assumes)
Wear frequency and fit drive “keep” versus “alter,” while condition and resale potential drive “sell” versus “donate.” Alter is only favored when the fit is off in a fixable way and your alteration effort is low/medium—otherwise the tool leans you toward donating or recycling based on condition. The calculator also assumes the item is clean/presentable unless you mark condition as fair/poor.
Common tricky scenarios (how the tool responds)
If wear frequency is 0, the tool won’t default to keeping—unless resale potential is high or the item is clearly alterable (via fit + reasonable effort + condition). If fit is good and you’re not planning changes, alteration effort should be none or low; otherwise the tool may recommend alter more often than you’d expect. For heavily damaged or stained items labeled poor, recycle becomes the recommendation even if resale potential seems tempting.
Caveats to get better results from your answers
“Alteration effort” is an estimate (not a tailor quote), so be honest about whether you’ll actually pay for adjustments or take the item in. Resale potential is local and brand-dependent—choose medium/high only when you’d realistically list it and expect buyers. Finally, this tool doesn’t model environmental impact or local donation/resale standards, so use your judgment before donating or selling.
